Community Partnership Council

Newmarket was recognized by the Regional Municipality of York for its membership on the community Partnership Council, contributions to the York Region Immigration Settlement Strategy, and efforts in creating an inclusive and welcoming community were all residents, including newcomers, can succeed.

World Firefighter Combat Challenge

Representing Central York Fire Services (CYFS), firefighter Amber Bowman received four gold medals in the female individual, female tandem, co-ed tandem and female relay categories at the World Firefighter Combat Challenge held from November 12 - 17, 2012. The Firefighter Combat Challenge is an annual event of rigorous competition wearing "full bunker gear" and the SCOTT Air-Pak breathing apparatus, during races that simulate the physical demands of real-life firefighting by performing a linked series of five tasks. The tasks include: climbing a 5-storey tower, hoisting, chopping, dragging hoses and rescuing a life-sized, 175 lb. "victim".

MarCom Award

Corporate Communications' 2010/11 Community Report received the 2012 Gold MarCom Award. The MarCom Awards is an international creative competition that recognizes outstanding achievement by marketing and communication professionals and is presented to organizations whose talent exceed a high standard of excellence and serve as a benchmark for the communications industry Newmarket's Community Report highlights why Newmarket is Right for so many reasonsand summarizes the Town's many accomplishments and successes from July 2010 to December 2011.

Canadian Red Cross Water Safety

The Recreation and Culture Department - Aquatics section was recognized by the Canadian Red Cross - Ontario Zone to receive this award at the annual First Aid & Water Safety Training Partner Conference. The award is issued to the top two (2) training partners having trained the most participants in Red Cross programs of which Newmarket placed 1st with 6170 participants for Red Cross Learn to Swim and 212 future swim instructors in Leadership programs offered in 2011. The award was presented at the first Annual First Aid & Water Safety Training Partner Conference in May, 2012.

Urban Plazas Commendation

Newmarket was presented with the Urban Plazas Commendation Award at the 49th IMCL Conference in Portland, Oregon on May 22, 2012 in recognition of the transformation of the Community Centre parking lot into a plaza with waterplay and river front areas to accommodate varied events and activities for old and young throughout the year.

Smart Commute Work Place Recognition

Newmarket received silver level recognition for its commitment to providing programs on commuter options for all employees, leadership in corporate social responsibility, and as a great place to work.
