Should I be concerned about lead in my water?

There is no indication that unacceptable levels of lead are present in the water associated with the Town of Newmarket water distribution system. Newmarket tests for lead in the distribution system in accordance with provincial requirements. Lead testing is regulated and test results have consistently shown that the lead content within Town's water distribution system is well below the limit established by provincial legislation under O.Reg 169/03 - Ontario Drinking Water Quality Standards.

What is a safe/acceptable level of lead?

The provincial limit for lead in water is 0.01 mg/L, as outlined within O.Reg 169/03 - Ontario Drinking Water Quality Standards. Health Canada has proposed a Maximum Acceptable Concentration of 0.005 mg/L for lead.
