Newmarket honours Black History Month this February

    Created: Friday, January 23, 2026

The Town of Newmarket is proud to continue the partnership with the Newmarket African Caribbean Canadian Association (NACCA) for its eighth year, along with this year’s presenting sponsor Magna International to offer events and activities that honour Black History Month in February.

This year’s theme, “The Promise We Carry,” reflects the enduring contributions of Black communities and invites the broader community to reflect, learn and participate in building a more inclusive Newmarket. It highlights the importance of honouring Black history while recognizing that the work of justice is ongoing.

“Black history is living, evolving and rooted in our shared responsibility to one another,” says Jerisha Grant-Hall, Executive Director of NACCA. “This Black History Month, we honour our rich and vast heritage, celebrate Black excellence in the present and continue the work of building a more equitable and inclusive future for generations to come.”

“We all share a responsibility to make Newmarket an inclusive community, which is why I encourage everyone to get involved in Black History Month to learn, engage, advocate and uplift Black voices,” says Mayor John Taylor. “This year’s theme is an important reminder that there is still work to be done to create a more equitable society now and for future generations. Thank you to NACCA for their continued partnership and leadership in strengthening the community.”
