The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority has issued a Watershed Conditions Statement in effect until March 7. Rainfall is forecasted for Tuesday and Wednesday in our watershed, with predicted rainfall accumulations up to 5-10 mm Tuesday and another 15-20 mm Wednesday.
While widespread flooding is not expected, the possibility for flooding in various low-lying areas of the watershed exists due to the expected rainfall and melting of the snowpack. There is also the potential for ice breakup in some areas resulting from melting and increased flows. All watercourses in our area will experience higher than normal water levels and flows. As a result, local streams and rivers will become dangerous, especially in the vicinity of culverts and bridges. Children should be warned to stay away from all watercourses.
