Connor McDavid Square is back! Newmarket to cheer on hometown hockey hero

    Created: Friday, May 30, 2025

Last year, Newmarket was featured on the iconic Hockey Night in Canada where the country heard our cheers and saw our pride. This June, Newmarket invites the community back to cheer louder than ever as hometown hockey hero Connor McDavid returns to the Cup Final with the Edmonton Oilers. Once again, Mayor Taylor will temporarily rename Riverwalk Commons to Connor McDavid Square for the duration of the playoffs.

Bring a lawn chair and join the Town at these community viewing parties for each of the Cup Final games between the Edmonton Oilers and the Florida Panthers. Residents and hockey fans far and wide are encouraged to wear or display orange and blue anywhere you can at these viewing parties.

"The Newmarket community is ready to cheer on hometown hockey hero Connor McDavid again in his quest for the Cup," says Mayor John Taylor. "Connor McDavid has always been a part of the Newmarket community and an amazing ambassador for our Town. Newmarket residents are extremely proud of Connor McDavid. Together let's cheer for Connor and our Canadian Oilers. Go Connor Go!"

Admission is free. Show off your Oilers pride by wearing your blue and orange! We'll be handing out free team-coloured towels to fans who come dressed in their Oilers gear!
