Mayor and Council

John Taylor - Chain of Office Headshot_web.jpg

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Town of Newmarket's Economic Development website.

Newmarket is quickly moving into a very exciting future. Our historic downtown has transformed over the last few years into a local hotspot and restaurant district. The Davis Drive and Yonge Street Corridors, where rapid transit is being completed, is attracting new condominium, apartment and office buildings. As a result of great progress in housing, transit, and entertainment, innovative businesses are converging in Newmarket.  In short, Newmarket is a fantastic place to build and grow a business.

As a former business owner, I understand the pressures of managing a business, including finding and retaining qualified employees, keeping costs low, negotiating contracts and envisioning a future for your company.

As Mayor of Newmarket, it is my hope that you will find that the Town of Newmarket seeks to make each of these things as easy as possible. We are active in encouraging the development of housing and transit that supports and attracts local talent, in bringing critical infrastructure to support all businesses in the community and providing assistance in accessing governmental grant funding both provincially and federally to support local economic development.

Whether you are considering a move to Newmarket, looking to expand your business or want more information about our extraordinary community, please reach out to myself or our Economic Development team - we would be happy to assist you.
